Why did innocent people confess
to the police even though they aren't the ones who did the criminal act? The
false innocent is happened because of several reasons. There are some false
confessions occurred because the suspects are coerced by the interrogator. The
suspects want to finish their interrogation process because they might be felt
intimidated by the police. Otherwise, the suspects want to finish their
interrogation quickly because they could be persuaded by the interrogator that
they are guilty. This could happen because they do not believe in their memory
themselves. On the other hand, the
innocent suspect could confess voluntarily. The reasons could be two; first, the innocent suspect wants to
protect someone else that important for them or; two, the innocent suspect is mentally ill, so he/she couldn't separate
which are the real or not.

One of the phenomenal cases about the innocent who plead guilty is the Central Park Jogger case in 1989. The victim, Trisha Meili, was doing her usual running at Central Park, NYC on the night of April 19, 1989. When she did her running, she suddenly was attacked and raped by the criminal. Not only that, but the criminal also assaulted her aggressively and made severe injury to her. The police suspected five boy teenagers for the criminal that they didn't act. The suspects had confessed because of the interrogation process. The interrogator did intimidation way too much and several of them also threatened the suspects. Moreover, the interrogation process did too long, so the suspects who were still teenagers didn't stand any longer. The consequence was the suspect charged into the prison and juvenile facilities between 6 until 13 years. At least, they released in 2002 because the real criminal admitted after 11 years passed. This is one of the real cases that involve innocent people. If you want to know and understand more about this case, you could watch some documentary videos on Youtube or watch American TV Show titled "When They See Us" on Netflix. It is worth to watch and you could understand better that laws sometimes have flaws.
