The Green Mile is mesmerizing! It has a simple story (i think, it isn't complicated as the other story I read). It pure magical and if you a Catholic or Protestant, you'll relate with this kind of story (Jesus Christ, I meant). This is different than the other Stephen King's books which are usually fulfilled by horror and gruesome stories. This novel is just heart-warming, an only small part of horror and gore scenes but I don't trouble with it at all.
The story started with the future of Paul Edgecombe. He was the boss of the prison guard in Block E. It is a special prison from the prisoners who will face their death in the electric chair. Block E has a special name, Green Mile. Paul then writes a story about his wonderful yet unforgettable experience that happened back in 1932. He and his other guard prison mates: Brutal (not the brutal person like his name, indeed he is the kindest and most mature character); Harry (i remembered that he is friendly and easily flexible), Dean (he is just the most anxious character but I bet many of reader relate with him); and the most hateable character, Percy. That Percy was the source of all of the troubles in Green Mile. He is arrogant, bullies, and ah...nothing to say anymore.
They life in Block E were just usual until the mouse appeared. The weird and intelligent mice appear sudden, and it made almost all of the prison guards entertained. Then, of course, the center of this story, include Delacroix (he is the French prisoner who will pet that intelligent mouse), there is John Coffey. He is big, way too big for the size of the usual man. His size and his race get nothing compared to the remarkable fact hidden in his looks. Later, John Coffey will make Paul and others' life change drastically.
I think I can recommend it to all readers from many genres. This is suitable for the reader above 17 years old. And, what I can take from this novel are: first, people will treat you the same as you do to them. So, if you do bad things to people, they will treat you bad too (except that people are the angel of God). Second, the death penalty is just... I don't think that kind of punishment is suitable in this era. I have a problem thinking about how good and effective the effect of the death penalty is. I still confused by the effectiveness of death penalty. Then third, errors in law are the things that irritated me. I wish the law in the present could be better than the law was shown in the book.
