DIRK GENTLY'S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY

"Just enjoy the ride, everything will connect eventually"
imdb.com

Season: 2
Year: 2016-2017
Rating in IMDB: 8,3
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Adventure
Creators: Max Landis
Main Casts: Samuel Barnett (Dirk), Elijah Wood (Todd), Hannah Marks (Amanda), Jade Eshete (Farah), Fiona Dourif (Bart), Mpho Koaho (Ken).

Just like the title, the series portrayed a “holistic” detective named Dirk. He is an unusual detective like any other, he gets something special within him, such as his belief about ‘everything is connected’. Besides his quirky personality, Dirk makes the series becoming funny enough to watch.

Dirk is not the only MC in this series. There are some interesting characters. Starting from Todd, in earlier season one, Todd was a bellboy in a hotel. Once upon a day, he got a very wrong time, but let he met Dirk. He involved in a strange case; a murder case but the murder look like happened by a big animal. The two detectives who get a hand in this case, suspect Todd, and that case eventually made Todd meet Dirk. Todd is a panic guy; he always looks worried over everything. His personality is just so different than Dirk’s personality that he is looked optimistic and witty.

The other main character is Amanda, who is Todd’s sister with a weird illness. She gets a Parabuilitis that an illness making you imagine that you are in a dangerous situation. For example, Amanda ever imagined herself was stabbed by a knife, even though that event does not real. Amanda had taken along with Todd and Dirk's weird experience until she met the other characters who are interesting too.

Next, the other MC is Farah, the one who is actually involved in the case, in season one. In season one, this show tells about Patrick Spring’s case. Patrick is one of the victims from the hotel (yeah, that hotel I told earlier where Todd worked). Surprisingly, Patrick can predict his death, so he called Dirk to help him solved the case. On the other hand, Patrick has a daughter named Lidya Spring. She lost and Farah is her bodyguard of her family, so she has to find Lidya. After Patrick murdered, Farah cooperates with Dirk and Todd to solve the case and find Lidya. The case even got weirder and weirder, when Dirk and his friend know about the villain business. In season one, it will involve a heavy theme of fantasy and sci-fi, such as time traveling, even body swapping.

There are some unique characters that I haven’t told. But, my favorite character is Bart. She is the most unique character, with her personality and her “job”. Different from Dirk, Bart is a holistic assassin. She got a hunch to kill Dirk, but when her journey with her “sudden” best friend, Ken, she killed many people. She just killed anyone that she thinks universe requested it. I think Bart is one of the characters who developed great.

This series is so funny! The comedy mixed with fantasy and sci-fi is entertaining. It has the same vibe with Utopia (you can read my review of Utopia); it’s bizarre and lively. All of the characters seem to do their job to influence the event. This series is not the kind of show that you want to guess the twists, or the plot, or the ending. Just like Dirk said, we just enjoy the ride, because everything will be connected and solved somehow.

Season two has a different case than season one, even it is still continuing the story of their characters from the first. Season two has a different case, it becomes more fantasy than sci-fi, and more bizarre than before. The season two will involve fairyland and magic. In my opinion, season one is better than season two.

MY FAVORITE MOMENTS (SPOILER!)
This moment is so LOL. The idea of the underground maze is magnificent, though.
Our for main characters! from left to right: Farah, Todd, Dirk, Amanda

TV SHOW SCI-FI, MYSTERY, & SUPERNATURAL REVIEW! #3

Part 3 (Castle Rock, Undone, Maniac, Channel Zero) Again, having fun ride with me!! Let’s go Castle Rock  Castle Rock adapted from Stephen King’s novels. Castle Rock's popularity was rising after It, a movie that adapted also from Stephen King's novel . Castle Rock season one is my favorite than the second because the story is more scary and layered. It combines horror, mystery, and a little bit of science fiction so well. At first, it was more horror and mystery. A police found a strange man in a cage. The strange man gives several unlucky events to the people in Castle Rock. He called as the devil. But, who is he actually? The performance of Bill Skarsgard is never disappointed. He shows one of his best performances besides his performance as Pennywise in It. At the end of season one, the twist unfolds. This was when the story become more into science-fiction and supernatural. The second season is much different than the first; there are dead people becoming zombies and the...

Happy Reading #3

Hello! Welcome to the third batch of my reading routine. It has been so loongg, I didn't post something about books. I have something more important right now, so my reading routine has lef out awhile from my life.  Those books (Inferno excluded) have been in my list since July 2021. I've read 3 of them and I will write the "standalone" review later. First of all, I share you some hints about my four new books.  1. The Craftsman (by Sharon Bolton) When I found this book in BBW, I was honestly intrigued by the sypnosis. This book has some exciting elements, which are witchcraft and mystery. It look promising, thereby this book will be the last one I read. 2. The Fourth Monkey (J.D.Baker) This one is the first book from The First Monkey series. The book focused on the mystery of a death of infamous criminal. The duo detective in this case and the rest of team tried to find the truth behind the death, is  the criminal that they really seek after for a long time, or ju...
