Rivers of London, Whodunnit Story Mixed with Urban Fantasy

Book title: Rivers of London (Rivers of London #1)

My Rating: 4,2

The first book from the Rivers of London series told about Peter Grant, a constable from the Police Department of London. After the probation phase ended, Peter accidentally became Nightingale’s student. Being Nightingale’s student was not only a usual constable but also a wizard apprentice. He is involved in the other side of London; magic, mystical creatures, ghost world, et cetera.

As you can see from the title, the setting of the story happened mostly in London. It may be easier for Londoners to comprehend the story because the writer often told the events with a detailed background and places. However, I am not Londoner, even not an English native speaker, so I sometimes found it difficult to read some of the words (those are some slang) and understand the setting of the story. Sometimes, I was searching at Google to know what the place looks like.

Rivers of London also take some references from many popular tales, such as vampire, the goddess of the river, and many more. The characters in the story are told well enough. Peter’s character development is amazing. I don’t think he’ll be a believable character at first, but he eventually grew to be more quick-witted, responsible, and clever. However, I think the other characters still need to dig deeper, especially Nightingale (like who he is actually? the most important information about himself just told at the end of the book). I know that the book has many other sequences and this is the first book, so the writer focused to tell the main character first, which is Peter Grant.

The story is straightforward that I think the conflicts are explained clearly and the way to solve the conflict is well-told. I think the use of the main character's point of view influenced it. Also, I didn’t see the twist in the last part of the book coming. Reading this book is fun, especially in the first part of the book when Peter realized that ghost is real. It is fun and enjoyable to read.

TV SHOW SCI-FI, MYSTERY, & SUPERNATURAL REVIEW! #3

Part 3 (Castle Rock, Undone, Maniac, Channel Zero) Again, having fun ride with me!! Let’s go Castle Rock  Castle Rock adapted from Stephen King’s novels. Castle Rock's popularity was rising after It, a movie that adapted also from Stephen King's novel . Castle Rock season one is my favorite than the second because the story is more scary and layered. It combines horror, mystery, and a little bit of science fiction so well. At first, it was more horror and mystery. A police found a strange man in a cage. The strange man gives several unlucky events to the people in Castle Rock. He called as the devil. But, who is he actually? The performance of Bill Skarsgard is never disappointed. He shows one of his best performances besides his performance as Pennywise in It. At the end of season one, the twist unfolds. This was when the story become more into science-fiction and supernatural. The second season is much different than the first; there are dead people becoming zombies and the...

Hello! Welcome to the third batch of my reading routine. It has been so loongg, I didn't post something about books. I have something more important right now, so my reading routine has lef out awhile from my life.  Those books (Inferno excluded) have been in my list since July 2021. I've read 3 of them and I will write the "standalone" review later. First of all, I share you some hints about my four new books.  1. The Craftsman (by Sharon Bolton) When I found this book in BBW, I was honestly intrigued by the sypnosis. This book has some exciting elements, which are witchcraft and mystery. It look promising, thereby this book will be the last one I read. 2. The Fourth Monkey (J.D.Baker) This one is the first book from The First Monkey series. The book focused on the mystery of a death of infamous criminal. The duo detective in this case and the rest of team tried to find the truth behind the death, is  the criminal that they really seek after for a long time, or ju...
